Augmented Reality Workshop By ETSI, 1 February 2018

On 1 February 2018, the Augmented Reality Workshop organized by the ETSI Industry Specification Group “Augmented Reality Framework” (ISG ARF) will take place at the 3IT in Berlin.

Augmented Reality (AR) technologies and applications will play an essential role in Industry 4.0 and will contribute to the success of smart cities and smart homes.
Mobility, retail, healthcare, and education as well as the public safety are some examples of domains where AR can bring significant value. Currently, AR is quickly entering into a new phase, a phase of enabling context-rich user experiences that combine sensors, wearable computing, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. This ability is a unique opportunity for creating value. A transparent and reliable interworking of different AR components is required for the successful provision of such services.

Organized by the newly established Industry Specification Group on Augmented Reality (ISG ARF), Fraunhofer HHI will host the first Augmented Reality workshop in their 3IT showroom on 1 February 2018. This group’s objective is to define a framework for the interoperability of AR applications and services with relevant components and interfaces. It will identify and determine technical requirements for AR specifications in order to ensure interoperable implementations that will benefit both technology providers and end-users.

Scope of the workshop
The workshop will aim to identify key use cases and collect information from the industry about obstacles while deploying (pilot) AR services and about requirements for interoperability. Presentations from participants who are willing to share their experiences are welcome!

Who should attend
– ETSI ISG ARF delegates who are attending the ISG ARF meeting on 2 February 2018.
– Everybody who considers joining the ISG ARF.
– Everybody who is interested in discussing interoperability for Augmented Reality applications.

The program includes a welcome speech from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) as well as presentations from the ETSI ISG ARF management team, Fraunhofer HHI, Fraunhofer IGD and Fraunhofer IFF. Furthermore, the two German projects AcRoSS and Glass@Service will be presented, which both deal with AR applications. A detailed agenda will follow soon and is available on the registration website.
